Layout & Facilities
Our department operates across two campuses: the North Campus (Lujiazui Campus) and the South Campus (World Expo Site Campus), offering specialized outpatient clinics in Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Internal Medicine, hepatopathy, Helicobacter pylori-related diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and chronic constipation. We operate 98 beds across both campuses, serving over 200,000 outpatients and 4,000 inpatients annually.
Services & Achievements
Our department excels in chronic hepatopathy care, treating over 10,000 patients a year with tailored plans for patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, hereditary metabolic liver disease, and cirrhosis complications. We’ve made significant strides in research, setting new standards for diagnosing muscular dystrophy in cirrhotic patients and pioneering nutritional interventions and diagnostic strategies for hepatic encephalopathy, while utilizing rifaximin for cirrhosis complications.
In endoscopy, we specialize in minimally invasive procedures like hemostasis, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), and variceal ligation, particularly for biliary, pancreatic and retroperitoneal diseases. We’re at the forefront of Shanghai for complex procedures like endobronchial ultrasound-guided needle aspiration and difficult ERCP.
We’ve established a clinic for inflammatory bowel disease, offering a comprehensive approach to Crohn’s disease, including a recent clinical trial of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell therapy, expanding treatment options.
For gastrointestinal motility disorders and Helicobacter pylori-related diseases, our state-of-the-art facilities make us a leader in Shanghai for motility testing and treatment. Our TEA treatment has proven effective for conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease, post-surgical gastroparesis, and functional constipation, offering patients non-invasive alternatives.
Academic Achievements
Our department plays a crucial role in education and research, offering PhD and master’s degree programs through Tongji University. As a standardized training base for resident physicians in Shanghai, we have trained over 20 PhD and master’s students and received multiple awards for teaching excellence. In collaboration with universities like Nanjing Medical University and Dalian Medical University, we contribute significantly to academic research, publishing over 40 papers in leading domestic and international journals.
