Overview

The Infectious Diseases Department at East Hospital comprises fever clinics, screening clinics, liver disease clinics, intestinal clinics, and wards across both the north and South Campuses. Specialized clinics within the department cater to specific needs, such as the Fatty Liver combined with Diabetes MDT clinic, Hepatitis B Mother-to-Child Transmission Prevention clinic, and Hepatitis C clinic.

We serve as a pivotal branch center for the Chinese Oasis Project, with a primary focus on reducing the occurrence of liver cancer in patients with hepatitis B. We have garnered recognition as a health service base for public welfare projects by esteemed organizations like the Chinese Public Health Alliance and the China Alliance for the Elimination of Hepatitis C. Additionally, we are an education base for Liver Doctor magazine, offering popular science content related to liver diseases. Furthermore, we hold the prestigious status of a national standardized diagnosis and treatment center for fatty liver, playing a pivotal role as the data management center for national fatty liver projects. We actively participate in the Mother-to-Child Zero Transmission Project for Hepatitis B and collaborate as a member of the Yangtze River Delta Traditional Chinese Medicine Liver Disease Cooperation Alliance.

Services

The Infectious Diseases Department at East Hospital is equipped with a dedicated and ethical team of 22 members, including 2 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, 2 PhD holders, and 5 master degree holders.

We undertake crucial responsibilities such as screening, treatment, reporting, and transfer of infectious diseasesplaying a crucial role in the prevention and control of infectious diseases and responding to emergency situations during sudden public health events. We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of various liver diseases, including viral hepatitis, fatty liver, drug-induced hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, liver failure, cirrhosis, intrahepatic cholestasis, etc. Additionally, we address unexplained fever and infectious diarrhea. Both the north and South Campus liver disease clinics now offer advanced technology known as transient elastographyIt offers simultaneous measurement of liver stiffness and controlled attenuation parameters, enabling quantitative detection of liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and fatty liver in a single examination.

Honors & Commitments

The department is actively involved in clinical medical care, education, and research related to infectious diseases. In July 2019, we were recognized as one of the first national Liver Doctor Popular Science Education Bases. Dr. QU Lihong, the department director, was appointed as a popular science ambassador to conduct health education and raise awareness of liver diseases.

In the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak of 2020, two doctors from the department rushed to support Wuhan, while our remaining medical staff continued their steadfast service. Under Dr. QU Lihongs leadership, the department was honored with the title of Collective Pacesetter of Pudong New District Workers. Dr. QU Lihong personally received recognition as an Outstanding Individual in the Fight Against COVID-19 in Shanghai, the May 1st Labor Medal of Pudong New District, and the Advanced Individual in Epidemic Prevention and Control of Pudong New District. These honors underscore the dedication and exemplary efforts of the entire team.
