Overview
The South Campus of the Clinical Laboratory at East Hospital stands as a key discipline in public health in Shanghai and a pivotal discipline in medical laboratory medicine within the vibrant Pudong New District. As a large-scale standardized medical laboratory accredited by CNAS (ISO 15189), we also operate as a regional medical consortium diagnostic center, seamlessly integrating clinical chemistry and immunology, clinical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, as well as clinical hematology, body fluid analysis, and transfusion services.
Dedicated to advancing the field, the South Campus offers master and PhD training programs for clinical laboratory diagnostic studies at Tongji University and serves as a mobile postdoctoral station. We have spearheaded several municipal continuing education programs, impacting thousands of participants annually. With a commitment to nurturing talent, we annually enroll 1 to 3 advanced medical technicians and hosts 10 to 15 interns, in addition to training dozens of postgraduate students.
Expert Team
Led by Dr. WU Wenjuan, the director, the South Campus has an expert team of 2 PhD tutors, 4 master tutors, and 8 lecturers, with 62% of them hold intermediate to senior professional titles, and 50% have a master degree or higher. Among them, 5 outstanding young talents have been included in various talent development programs at the municipal, regional, and hospital levels. Notably, Dr. WU Wenjuan is recognized as an outstanding technical leader in Shanghai and an outstanding academic leader in the health system. She has also been recognized as an advanced individual in the prevention and control of COVID-19 in the national health system.
Services
At the Clinical Laboratory at East Hospital, the South Campus, we provide comprehensive testing services for various sub-specialties, delivering objective diagnostic data for disease diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, or assessment of human health for medical services and public health safety. Moreover, we comply with national standards and have established a biosafety level II pathogenic microorganism laboratory and a gene amplification laboratory, offering medical consulting and clinical research services with advanced facilities and systems.
Our facilities and systems include the Roche Infinity specimen pre-processing line, Roche Cobas702 fully automatic biochemical analyzer, E801 immunoassay analyzer, Roche t711 fully automatic coagulation line, Roche urine dry chemistry analyzer, urine composition analyzer, automated blood analysis line, the Thermo Fisher automated microbial detection system, SensititreTM fully automatic drug sensitivity system, real-time fluorescence PCR instrument, and high-throughput gene sequencer.
Research
With whole-process quality control, we strive to offer high-quality and efficient clinical services. Our excellence in clinical microbiology and molecular diagnostics is recognized by the Shanghai Bacterial and Fungal Resistance Surveillance Network Fungal Working Group and evidenced by our leading role in the invasive fungal infection working group in the eastern China region. Notably, we excel in pathogenic microorganism infection, challenging laboratory diagnostics, molecular epidemiology of drug-resistant bacteria, and research on drug resistance mechanisms.
In recent years, we have undertaken more than 30 vertical projects, published over 120 papers in SCI and other core journals, authored 4 monographs, and applied for more than 10 patents. Our projects span from national science and technology major projects to Shanghai key disciplines in public health and national natural science foundation projects. In addition, we have gained honors such as the second prize of the Shanghai Pudong New District Science and Technology Progress Award, the advanced collective in the Shanghai health system, and the Best Service Window at the Import Expo.
