Overview
The North Campus of Clinical Laboratory at East Hospital is a key discipline in Pudong New District and a key specialty of the hospital. We seamlessly integrate clinical examination, education, and research to deliver comprehensive healthcare solutions. We take on clinical testing responsibilities for major divisions of the East Hospital, the East International Hospital, and affiliated units of the East Hospital Medical Consortium. Additionally, we undertake teaching duties for prestigious institutions like Tongji University, Nanjing Medical University, Shanxi Medical University, and Dalian Medical University. As a national standardized training base for resident physicians, we also serve as a standardized training base for resident and specialized physicians in Shanghai, along with being a training base for the capacity building and continuing education center of the National Health Commission.
Expert Team
The expert team comprises 49 staff members, including 1 professor and chief physician, 4 associate chief technicians, 14 chief technicians, 1 PhD tutor, 1 master tutor, 5 PhD degree holders, and 16 master degree holders. Moreover, we have 10 young talents selected for the youth talent training programs of Shanghai, Pudong New District, and the hospital.
Led by Professor FAN Lieying, a distinguished academic leader in Shanghai, we are committed to making contributions to research and innovation. Professor FAN Lieying has been recognized as an outstanding academic leader in Shanghai, one of the Top 10 Medical Technologists in Shanghai, and has been awarded with the Shanghai Medical Technology Innovation Award and the Shanghai Outstanding Specialist Physician Nomination Award.
Services
At East Hospital, the Department of Clinical Laboratory consists of five specialized laboratories, namely Clinical Examination, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, and Molecular Diagnosis. Equipped with cutting-edge medical testing facilities, including fully automatic systems for various analyses, we conduct over 600 clinical laboratory tests. The facilities include blood sample collection and transportation management systems, biochemistry and immunology analyzers, blood cell analysis lines, gene amplification instruments, high-throughput nucleic acid sequencers, mass spectrometers, and bacterial identification and drug sensitivity analysis systems.
With a focus on informatization and automation, we have been at the forefront of quality management in clinical laboratories for over a decade. Our clinical testing quality system has received international recognition, passing the ISO 15189 medical laboratory test in 2015. This accreditation enhances our international recognition for the quality and reliability of the test result. Moreover, we prioritize service efficiency and patient experience, implement measures to reduce the amount of blood drawn from patients and provide convenient access to test reports, even remotely.
Honors & Commitments
We focus on the development and application of new technologies regarding diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases, laboratory diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, and rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases.
In recent years, we have received 3 sub-projects of major projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 10 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 10 research projects of the Shanghai Committee of Science and Technology and Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission, and 6 various funds of Pudong New District. The team has published 90 academic papers as the first/corresponding author, including 37 SCI papers. Recognized for its innovation, we have won 1 second prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 third prizes of the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award, and 1 second prize of the Pudong New District Science and Technology Progress Award. Furthermore, we have patented 4 national inventions and 2 utility models and contributed to 7 monographs as chief/associate editor.
