Overview

The Nutrition Department at East Hospital is a clinical medical technology department that integrates clinical nutrition, education, scientific research, and public education.  Focused on addressing acute and chronic nutritional imbalances and metabolic diseases, we conduct nutrition testing and evaluation, develop treatment dietary plans, implement and supervise treatment, and observe so as to adjust based on the principles of nutritional therapy.

Services

At East Hospital, the Nutrition Department offers a wide range of services to both inpatients and outpatients, including nutritional diagnosis and treatment, consultations, support, rounds, research, education, experiments, and therapeutic dietary management. With a dedicated team comprising 1 senior, 4 intermediate, and 3 junior professional and technical staff, as well as nutrition nurses and nutrition chefs, we are committed to ensures holistic care for our patients.

· Clinical patient nutritional consultations

· Nutritional risk screening for hospitalized patients

· Nutritional assessment using PG-SGA for cancer patients

· Enteral nutrition support treatment for critically ill patients

· Nutritional support and management for perioperative patients

· Nutritional support and management for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)

· Preoperative and postoperative nutritional management for metabolic weight loss surgery patients

· Personalized nutritional treatment plans for patients with various chronic metabolic diseases

Commitments

We actively contribute to national initiatives, including the National Guidance Center for Nutrition in Cancer Patients Construction Project (GPS) at Shanghai East Hospital. By promoting standardized nutritional diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients, we aim to improve patient outcomes. Additionally, we have established specialized clinics for chronic kidney disease nutrition and prenatal nutrition consultation to address specific patient needs.

Engagement in education and research is central to our mission. We provide teaching on clinical nutrition at Tongji University and offer clinical guidance to nutrition interns. Through the publication of research papers and books on nutrition therapy, we continue to contribute to advancing knowledge in the field. Furthermore, we conduct popular science lectures and health nutrition promotion courses in Shanghai and Pudong New District, catering to both medical professionals and the general public.
