Gastroendoscope Center

Overview

The Gastroendoscope Center, led by Professor XU Meidong, is a state-of-the-art facility recognized for its top-tier endoscopic equipment. As a certified training base for senior digestive endoscopists by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, our center has garnered several honors, including the Craftsman Innovation Workshop of Pudong New District, the Best Service Model in the Shanghai health system during the second China International Import Expo, and the Caring Service Demonstration Model in the Pudong New District health system. Additionally, it is acknowledged as the Clinical Medical Research Center for Digestive System Diseases in Shanghai (core institution).

Expert Team

Our team consists of 34 dedicated staff members, including 18 physicians, all holding graduate degrees, with 7 possessing senior professional titles. This highly qualified team performs a wide range of endoscopic procedures, such as routine painless endoscopic examinations, early cancer screenings, emergency endoscopies, endoscopic ultrasounds, and advanced treatments including the ESD series of resection techniques and ERCP. Our proficiency in endoscopic resection and ERCP procedures is renowned both in Shanghai and nationwide.

Facilities

Our center boasts endoscopy platforms at two campuses: the Lujiazui North Campus and the World Expo Site South Campus, encompassing 26 endoscopy operation rooms over approximately 3,000 square meters. It includes a specialty ward with 22 regular beds and additional special beds, offering comprehensive endoscopic diagnosis and treatment services, including outpatient consultations, routine examinations, detailed inspections, inpatient treatment, and regular follow-up.

Services

We offer an extensive array of endoscopic diagnostic and treatment services. Beyond routine endoscopic screenings and staining magnification techniques, we excel in advanced resection technologies such as EMR, ESD, ESE, EFTR, and STER for managing precancerous lesions, early cancers, and submucosal tumors in the digestive tract. Additionally, we perform POEM for achalasia cardia. Each year, we conduct over 1,500 ERCP procedures and nearly 2,000 complex endoscopic surgeries like ESD, STER, and POEM.

We are committed to pioneering new endoscopic technologies and treatments. Our routine interventions include therapies for esophagogastric varices and internal hemorrhoids, alongside various endoscopic ultrasound interventions such as EUS and EUS-FNA, facilitating precise diagnosis and treatment for complex digestive system diseases.

For emergency cases involving digestive foreign bodies, acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage, acute intestinal obstruction, and acute obstructive suppurative cholangitis, we operate a 24-hour green channel for emergency endoscopy. We provide individualized, continuous treatment for various refractory benign and malignant digestive strictures and obstructions, employing techniques such as endoscopic balloon dilation, radial incision, drug injection, mucosal transplantation, stent placement, and anti-stricture water balloon placement. These interventions yield outstanding therapeutic outcomes and are hallmark services of our center.

Academic Performance

Our center undertakes significant teaching responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate students from Tongji University. Annually, we host over 100 medical professionals from across the country for advanced training. We also regularly organize international academic conferences and national-level continuing education workshops, solidifying our influence in the field.
