The Respiratory Medicine Department at East Hospital is a premier and high-level discipline in Pudong New District and the leading institution of the Respiratory Diseases Group of the Chinese Medical Association and the chairman institution of the Respiratory Diseases Group of the Shanghai Medical Association. As a training base for PhD and master’s students from Tongji University, our center plays a crucial role in the academic development of future medical professionals and is also a standardized training base for resident and specialist physicians in Shanghai, reflecting our commitment to educational excellence.

Our team comprises over 80 dedicated staff members, including 7 senior professionals, 12 associate professionals, and 25 intermediate professionals. This diverse and highly skilled team is committed to providing top-tier care and advancing the field of respiratory medicine.

Our center is composed of eight specialized sections: the Outpatient Clinic Area, Respiratory Interventional Treatment Center, Respiratory Intensive Care Unit, Lung Cancer Center, Respiratory Disease Units at North and South Campuses, Respiratory Specialist Laboratory, Respiratory Disease Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Respiratory Specialist Association in Pudong New District. With these comprehensive facilities, we offer leading clinical service and techniques in China, consistently ranking at the forefront of Shanghai for our overall strength.

We focus on the clinical diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases, emphasizing collaborative research and developing distinct specialties. Our areas of expertise include the comprehensive treatment of severe pulmonary infections and respiratory failure, thoracic tumors, interventional respiratory diseases, and the clinical prevention and treatment of chronic airway diseases.
Achievements
Our center has secured funding from prestigious sources such as the National Key Research and Development Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with total funding exceeding 50 million yuan. We have been recognized as an excellent institution in the national standardized construction of “Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine” and for our efforts in the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
