The Spinal Surgery Department is a leading specialty in orthopedics in Shanghai, renowned for its proficient technical team and commitment to excellence in patient care and research. Our vision is to establish ourselves as an internationally renowned center for spinal surgery and a globally recognized hub for research and treatment of spinal disorders.

Expert Team

Under the guidance of Director WU Desheng, the Spinal Surgery Department boasts a distinguished team of medical professionals, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 2 chief physicians, 7 associate chief physicians, 2 PhD advisors, and 4 master tutors. Our team of 15 physicians is comprised of 10 with PhDs, 3 with Masters degrees, and all key physicians have completed overseas training. As a postdoctoral work station in orthopedics at Tongji University, we offer PhD and Masters degree programs and have successfully mentored over sixty students.

Services

Our department specializes in a comprehensive range of spinal disorders, including but not limited to craniovertebral malformations, cervical spondylosis, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament in the cervical spine, cervical stenosis, thoracic disc herniation, ossification of the yellow ligament in the thoracic spine, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spondylolisthesis, lumbar stenosis, spinal deformities, spinal tuberculosis, spinal tumors, spinal fractures and dislocations, and osteoporotic spinal diseases.

Achievements & Innovations

Currently, the Spinal Surgery Department is engaged in 7 research programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, along with multiple projects from the Shanghai Committee of Science and Technology and the National Health Commission. Our teams dedication to research has resulted in over 100 published SCI papers and contributions to more than 20 specialized books in orthopedics and spinal surgery. We have also been honored with 3 provincial-level scientific research achievements and awards.

Education & Research

As a key institution in orthopedic education, our department is committed to the academic advancement of the field. We offer rigorous PhD and masters degree programs and serve as a mobile postdoctoral station, contributing to the development of future leaders in orthopedics and spinal surgery.
