Overview
The Urology Department, established in 1978, has flourished over decades of development. As a distinctive discipline construction site in the hospital and in the Pudong New District, the department has grown into a comprehensive, specialized, and research-oriented medical institution. Renowned for its talent, cutting-edge equipment, advanced technology, and commitment to medical education, the department is recognized as a top medical brand in Shanghai, excelling both domestically and globally.
Expert Team
Under the leadership of Professor YANG Guosheng, department director, and deputy directors Doctors WEN Xiaofei, WANG Haifeng, and YE Lin, along with associate chief physician CHEN Weihua, our team consists of 65 medical professionals and 25 medical and technical staff, including 14 PhD holders, 3 with master’s degrees, 2 PhD tutors, 5 master tutors, 3 professors, 5 chief physicians, 9 associate chief physicians, and 9 attending physicians. Ten key physicians have participated in exchange programs in renowned countries such as the United States, France, Germany, and Canada, showcasing our expertise excellence.
Services
Our department includes multiple Campuses: North Campus, South Campus, Hudong Campus (under construction), Jiaozhou Campus in Qingdao, and Ji’an Campus in Jiangxi. With over 100 beds, a daily emergency visit volume exceeding 400, and an annual emergency visit volume surpassing 80,000, we admit nearly 6,000 inpatients annually and perform over 5,000 surgeries each year.
The department is leading in minimal invasive laser technology and endoscopy, recognized as an international training base. Our collaboration with the teams of the Sino-French Urology Cooperation Project and Professor Bernard Debre from Paris Descartes University’s Cochin Hospital has established the only Sino-French Urology Center and Specialized Operating Room in China. We are pioneers in domestic robot-assisted minimal invasive surgery, ultra-micro prostate cancer diagnosis, bloodless laser surgery, 3D precision laparoscopic surgery, and visual endoscopic lithotripsy, having performed over 30,000 procedures.
Our department is equipped with cutting-edge ultra-minimal invasive equipment and standardized sub-specialty diagnosis and treatment systems. We boast internationally leading robots, 3D and high-definition minimally invasive surgical systems, including the Toumai robot-assisted surgical system, Olympus 3D and high-definition laparoscopic systems, laser lithotripsy systems, and Olympus electronic ureteroscopy, etc. We specialize in areas such as endoscopic tumor diagnosis and treatment, minimal invasive laser treatment, stone diagnosis and treatment, pediatric urology, pelvic floor urology, and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.
Education & Honors
Under the mentorship of Professor YANG Guosheng, our teaching team collaborates with esteemed institutions worldwide, including Johns Hopkins University, the University of Southern California, the University of Rochester, and Shenzhen BGI. We also undertake teaching responsibilities at Tongji University, Nanjing Medical University, Shanxi Medical University, and Dalian Medical University.
Our department was awarded the Prostate Disease Health Management Station by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association in 2012 and became a member institution of the Shanghai Urinary Control Group Pelvic Floor Alliance in 2016. In 2018, we were designated as a specialty discipline construction site for prostate cancer in Pudong New District.
Academic Achievements
Our team has published over 200 academic papers, including more than 50 SCI papers with a single paper impact factor as high as 9.0. We have authored 3 books and contributed to 9 others. Our research is supported by numerous grants, including 7 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 key international cooperation project from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and various provincial and municipal projects.
Dr. WANG Haifeng was selected as a leading figure in the Pudong New District discipline cultivation plan, and Dr. HUANG Liqun was honored as an outstanding young medical talent in Pudong New District. Our professionals hold significant positions in various professional committees of the Urology Division of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, contributing to the advancement of urological research and clinical practice.
