The Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Department (South Campus) integrates traditional Chinese and western medicine expertise in hepatobiliary care. As a pivotal member institution of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Strategic Development Alliance in the Yangtze River Delta and a national-level training base for specialty and resident physicians in Shanghai, our department is committed to advancing surgical excellence.
Expert Team
Our department boasts a highly skilled medical team, comprising 8 professionals, including 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians, and 8 doctors with PhD degrees. Supported by the professionally qualified medical team, our team handles a significant caseload, treating 1,700 patients and performing over 1,100 surgeries annually.
Services
We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of complex conditions such as hepatocellular carcinoma, hilar cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder carcinoma, pancreatic carcinoma, portal hypertension, intra- and extrahepatic bile duct stones, gallstones, and complex biliary injuries. Our expertise extends to emergency treatments for acute liver and spleen injuries, emphasizing individualized minimally invasive approaches for biliary diseases, comprehensive liver cancer care, and precise pancreatic tumor treatments. Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic tools, including 3D laparoscopy, electronic choledochoscopy, electrohydraulic lithotripsy, and duodenoscopy, we ensure advanced care tailored to each patient’s needs.
Innovations & Achievements
Our department’s routine surgical repertoire is distinguished by its proficiency in minimally invasive procedures, including single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic gallbladder-preserving stone extraction. We also excel in complex interventions such as laparoscopic combined choledochoscopy for extrahepatic bile duct stone extraction, laparoscopic liver tumor resection, and advanced laparoscopic pancreatic surgeries like pancreaticoduodenectomy and spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy. Furthermore, we perform laparoscopic portal vein ligation combined with splenectomy, showcasing our commitment to providing advanced, less invasive surgical options for our patients.
Academic Performance
Committed to excellence and innovation, our department actively spearheads a national continuing medical education project each year, reinforcing our expertise and sharing knowledge within the medical community. We have also led the charge in scientific advancement with 3 provincial/ministerial-level innovation programs and 2 research initiatives in the Pudong New District.
