Overview
The East Hospital Emergency Medicine was established in the early 1980s. Through the dedication and efforts of several generations of leading professionals, we have evolved from a basic transfer emergency room to a modern emergency department with comprehensive capabilities for treating various urgent and critical patients.
The North Campus of Emergency Internal Medicine, an integral part of is a key national clinical specialty and one of the most significant specialties in Shanghai. it plays a crucial role in the construction of the Advanced Discipline for Emergency and Critical Care in Pudong New District, serving as a standardized training base for emergency resident physicians and specialists in Shanghai. Additionally, it is accredited for offering PhD degree programs and postdoctoral training.
Expert Team
The North Campus of Emergency Internal Medicine comprises 19 physicians, including 1 professor, 1 chief physician, 4 associate chief physicians, 1 PhD tutor, and 2 master tutors, with over 70% holding postgraduate degrees. The nursing team consists of more than 80 staff, including 1 associate chief nurse and 18 senior nurses and upholds a team spirit of “mutual collaboration, mutual development”. Notably, the emergency pre-examination and rescue nursing team has received honors such as National Female Model and Best Service Window in Shanghai Health System.
Services
With nearly 40 years of development, the Emergency Internal Medicine Department (North Campus) have established an integrated treatment model encompassing the emergency triage area, rescue room, waiting area, emergency ward, and Emergency Intensive Care Unit (EICU). We have implemented specialized pathways for critical diseases, such as the Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center, and fast tracks for Acute Respiratory Failure, Acute Poisoning/Heatstroke, Acute Infectious Diseases, and Acute Hemorrhagic Diseases. Equipped with advanced organ support techniques, including invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, bedside blood purification, bedside bronchoscopy, and sub-hypothermia treatment, the department annually serve nearly 120,000 emergency patients, with 17,000 discharges, almost 20,000 observation cases, and 12,000 rescue cases. We perform over 600 invasive procedures, with a CMI value of 1.5. Our clinical focus is on rescuing difficult and critically ill patients, excelling in various clinical and major medical security tasks.
Innovations & Achievements
In recent years, the North Campus have actively focused on future development and promotion of clinical characteristics based on the hospital’s academic strengths and platform. the campus has established a clinical profile centered on diseases such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, acute infectious diseases, and early diagnosis and treatment of multiple organ failure. It has secured 7 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects from the Natural Science Foundation of Shanghai, 1 project from the Shanghai Committee of Science and Technology, and 1 key project from the Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science Foundation. Furthermore, it has also received prestigious awards, including Leading Talent, Outstanding Discipline Leader, and Young Medical Talent awards from Pudong New District, and honored with 1 award for technological progress from the Pudong New District Government. Over this period, we have published more than 40 SCI papers, nearly 100 articles in core journals, and obtained 4 invention patents and nearly 10 utility model patents. We have recruited over 30 resident physicians who have undergone standardized training, many of whom have been awarded Outstanding Resident Physician in Shanghai. Furthermore, we have trained over 10 PhD students and nearly 40 master students.
