The South Campus of the Oncology Department is led by professor GAO Yong, MD, the academic leader and a chief physician graduated from the Naval Medical University. The team comprises 1 PhD tutor and 3 master tutors from Tongji University as associate chief physician and attending physicians respectively, and 2 resident physicians. With a focus on specialized research and innovation, we specialize in the comprehensive treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, particularly colorectal cancer.
Services
At East Hospital Oncology, we prioritize standardized and personalized precision medicine for cancer patients, actively implementing the concept of comprehensive cancer treatment by integrating systematic chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and local minimal invasive treatments. We are professional with advanced technologies and methods, including ablation, SBRT (stereotactic body radiation therapy), particle implantation, deep thermal therapy for tumors, abdominal cavity hyperthermic perfusion, and other cutting-edge strategies.
We focus on the standardized treatment of colorectal cancer and research on new technologies and approaches. Collaborating with experts such as Professor FU Chuangang, an internationally renowned colorectal surgery expert, the team delivers advanced treatment options for colorectal cancer patients, including 3D laparoscopic surgery, low rectal preservation, precise radiotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and more. We are committed to enhance the life quality and long-term survival of our patients and dedicated to developing new approaches to improve the efficacy of immunotherapy for colorectal cancer. We have pioneered the establishment of the Colorectal Cancer Molecular Expert Committee (CCMB) in China, forming expertise in precision diagnosis and treatment for late-stage, recurrent, and challenging cases of colorectal cancer.

With a focus on patient-centered care, we have established comprehensive and individualized treatment strategies for each patient, providing practical and effective services. We have undertaken over 30 national and provincial/ministerial level research projects, published extensively in top international journals such as Cancer Research, Gastroenterology, Molecular Cancer, and obtained 8 related patents.
Putting patient needs first, we actively practice the spirit of saving lives and helping the injured. All of us fulfill the responsibilities in standardizing cancer treatment, leading the development of cancer prevention and treatment in Shanghai, and contributing to building a healthier society.
