Overview

The East Hospital Oncology encompasses the Phase I Clinical Research Center, two campuses (North and South Campuses), Radiotherapy Department, and other disciplines dedicated to oncology. We are recognized as a key medical specialty in Shanghaian advanced discipline in Pudong New District and an advantageous discipline within the Hospital. With nearly 200 beds and a yearly treatment of over 100,000 patients with various tumors, we rank among the top in similar disciplines in Shanghai’s Class-A Grade-3 comprehensive hospitals.

Phase I Clinical Research Center for Antitumor New DrugsOverview

Established in March 2017, the Phase I Clinical Research Center for Antitumor New Drugs at East Hospital is co-led by professor LI Jin, who serves as the president of the Asian Clinical Oncology Federation (FACO)the Chairperson of the CSCO Foundationand former Chairperson of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) and Professor GUO Ye, who serves as the Chairperson of the Head and Neck Oncology Professional Committee of CSCO. Spanning an area of 1,500 square meters with 23 beds, the center has spearheaded over 200 Phase I clinical trials, encompassing nearly 20 types of tumors, including those affecting the lung, breast, gastrointestinal tract, hepatobiliary system, pancreas, esophagus, nasopharynx, lymphatic system, among others. We have garnered recognition as a premier research hub for the development of antitumor medications in the East China region.

Our projects encompass a wide array of endeavors, from improved chemotherapy drugs, targeted drugs (such as new anti-angiogenic drugs or inhibitors of ERK/MERK/mTOR/FGFR/TGFb/ c-Met), immunotherapeutic drugs (such as PD-1/PD-L1/CTLA-4/tumor vaccines), ADC drugs, and beyond. Additionally, we delve into innovative projects, such as bi- and tri-specific antibodies, cell therapy (such as CAR-T therapy/TIL therapy/CAR-NK therapy)novel approaches for rare target mutations (inhibitors targeting unique targets like Braf-V600E/NTRK/FAK), oncolytic virus projects, ascites projects, projects targeting bone metastasis, immune stimulants (41BB/anti-ICOS antibodies), and projects concerning reversing immune resistance (MDM2 inhibitors).

Honors & Commitments

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a stellar research team, the center has implemented robust management systems, standard operating procedures, and emergency protocols to uphold subject safety. Notably, the quality management system adheres to the stringent standards set by both the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and the U.S. FDA.

In recognition of our commitment to excellence, the center was bestowed with the Gold Award of the China Biomedical Industry Chain Innovation List in 2021, cementing its status as one of the top 10 best clinical trial medical institutions. Collaborating seamlessly with multinational and domestic companies, we spearhead clinical trial research on cutting-edge medications, providing patients with access to the latest in precision treatment and immunotherapy options. Our research findings have played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of cancer treatment in China, driving the evolution towards standardized and individualized precision cancer care nationwide.

At the core of our mission lies the relentless pursuit of advancing the clinical development of new anti-cancer drugs. By facilitating the entry of more Chinese-developed anti-tumor medications into Phase II and Phase III clinical trials, we aim to extend the benefits of innovative therapies to a larger cohort of cancer patients, underscoring the unwavering dedication to improving patient outcomes.
